The proposed judicial reforms to Israel’s legal system have been a point of contention and fierce debate in Israel since the beginning of 2023. Additionally, new proposed changes to the Israeli Police command provide the political system with more power over the police command. Police policies, demonstration policies and licenses, and the decision whether to publish particular police commands would all be in the hands of the political system, according to these proposed changes.
The Association of Ethiopian Jews (AEJ), a unique advocacy organization for the Ethiopian Jewish community in Israel, has been involved for years with research and advocacy relating to excessive policing, profiling, and police violence towards the Ethiopian-Israeli community.
