Help Hire Moshe Full-Time to Defend Rights of Ethiopian Israelis

Tebeka is the first and only Ethiopian Israeli legal aid clinic in Israel working on behalf of Ethiopian Jews.   Tebeka is assisted Friends of Ethiopian Jews and has been since its founding in 2000, fighting for the rights and equality for Ethiopian Israelis.

Help us raise our campaign goal of $36,000 to hire another attorney – Moshe – full-time at Tebeka to defend the rights of Ethiopian Israelis!

Ethiopian Jews in Israel are the smallest Jewish minority and are people of color. They are disproportionately arrested, charged and discriminated against, particularly in the areas of housing, employment and police harassment.   During recent protests against over-policing and the killing of teenager Solomon Teka, thousands of peaceful Ethiopian Israeli protesters were arrested.  They were released and never charged, but their arrest records remain on file.

Tebeka Attorney Moshe Adgo

Tebeka has one full-time attorney, Tomer Mersha, who is also the CEO along with two interns. In January 2022, Friends of Ethiopian Jews was able to raise $36,000 in order for Tebeka to hire a second attorney, Moshe Adgo, but only half-time, due to budget constraints.

Tebeka urgently requested that another $36,000 be raised to “Hire Moshe Full-Time.”

So far, we have raised $16,005 towards this goal.   We have just under $20,000 to go!

There are approximately 3,000 arrest records for Ethiopian Israeli young adults who were arrested while protesting.    Even though were never charged,  the arrest record still stands.  Many municipal and government jobs, plus certain positions in the military, are out of bounds to people with arrest records.  These records must be expunged, case by case, in the town where the arrest took place. Without this happening, these young Ethiopian Israelis who were exercising their Democratic rights as citizens to protest, will have a much tougher time in Israel. Moshe is working on these cases, but we need him full-time! Moshe is a graduate of the Ono College Law School in Israel and worked as a public defender before joining this year.  Please help us Hire Moshe Full-Time!

Please DONATE here to help Tebeka hire Moshe full-time and achieve equality and justice for Ethiopian Israelis.

Thank you!
