Tech Career has a new Exec. Director, Takele Mekonen, who has just stepped into the position after Passover.  After 3.5 years as Executive Director, Naftali Avraham has retired.  We wish him all the very best.   Naftali took Tech Career from the rural kibbutz to a central location in Lod, and launched a $2 million campaign to build a new campus there.

Takele Mekonen is uniquely qualified to take on the responsibilities of Executive Director of Tech-Career.  Over the past ten years Takele has overseen a leadership program for young Ethiopian Israelis at the Ruppin Academic Center.  Under his guidance some 250 graduates have pursued careers in business management, economics, accounting and behavioral sciences.

Takele’s first-hand acquaintance with technological fields was earned during his service in the Israeli Air Force.   When he was asked to direct the Ethiopian-Israeli NGO Fidel, Takele demonstrated his capacity to advance the integration of Ethiopian-Israeli families into mainstream Israel educational systems.

Perhaps most significant is that Takele draws his motivation from his own life story.

Takele made the perilous journey through the Sudan at a young age.  Takele, sixteen at the time, was enlisted by the Mossad to help assure safe passage for many others.    After a year and a half, his stealth mission endangered his life, and the Mossad covertly brought him, at long last, to Israel.    His youthful experiences redoubled his determination to help a new generation achieve its full potential in the homeland that thousands of Ethiopian Jews strove so hard to reach.
