Shlomit Bukaya is the new Director of AEJ, replacing Ziva Mekonen-Degu who has retired after eight years of impressive service as the leader of Israel’s oldest Ethiopian Jewish advocacy organization.
Shlomit is an attorney. Her law practice has focused on civil and commercial litigation with special emphasis on complex litigation matters and class actions in one of Israel’s largest law firms. Shlomit received her LLB and her BA in Government, Diplomacy and Strategy from the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in 2014. Shlomit was admitted to the Israel Bar in 2015.
Shlomit chose to join the AEJ out of a genuine connection with the AEJ mission and a desire to change policies impacting the Ethiopian Israeli community. She believes in legislation reform and advocacy work, as well as collaboration with people and organizations for social change. Shlomit’s skills that she has acquired as a lawyer will especially assist her in achieving these goals.
Shlomit is married to Einan and mother to Guy.
FEJ welcomes Shlomit and says ‘thank you’ to Ziva.
We wish Shlomit & AEJ much success in their work of advocacy and change!
