Friends by Nature - Community Empowerment Friends by Nature (FBN) Community Empowerment is a non-profit Israeli organization that was established in 2005 by a diverse group of Ethiopian-Israelis and veteran Israelis, secular and religious, all committed to multiculturalism, helping youth at-risk and the success of immigrant communities in Israel. FBN runs programs for at-risk Ethiopian-Israeli youth and their families – focusing on developing young leadership, increasing volunteerism, civil society, community renewal, strengthening the family unity, and increasing a connection to the land of Israel. Olim Beyahad– or Bandelay Woodelay (in Amharic) – or Rising Together (in English) - integrates members of the Ethiopian Israeli community as a normative and important part of Israeli life in the areas of employment, residence, education, and social life. Tech-Career - Computer Training for Ethiopian Israelis. For over 25 years, Ethiopian Israelis have been attempting to break out of the harsh socio-economic reality in which they live and integrate into Israeli society. According to the latest statistics (Brookdale Institute, 2007), more than 50% of Ethiopian Israeli families are still living below the poverty line, compared to 14.5% of veteran Israeli families. Tech-Career, founded in 2003 by a member of the Ethiopian Israeli community, provides an innovative solution and a unique opportunity for Ethiopian Israelis to climb the socio-economic ladder. Tebeka - (Amharic for “Advocate of Justice”), is the legal aid society for Ethiopian Jews in Israel and was founded by the first Ethiopian- Israeli attorney to earn a law degree, Itzik Dessie. Its mission is to safeguard the rights of Ethiopian-Israelis by ensuring their access to high quality, comprehensive and free legal services; as well as to cultivate Israel's next generation of leaders and legal scholars.Tebeka operates legal aid clinics that serve more than 1,000 clients annually in areas including employment, education, housing, health, immigration and family law.
